About Us

Animal Control serves the entirety of Summit County, including the unincorporated areas and all the cities within the County. Our shelter offers potential pets for you and your family to choose from. Our animals are either strays or pets turned in by owners no longer able to keep them. As part of our mission, Animal Control:

  • sells annual dog licenses and kennel permits
  • partners with animal rescue groups
  • adopts cats and dogs to caring families
  • provides educational programs for schools and other interested groups
  • promotes responsible pet ownership, including spay and neuter
  • rents traps for cats, raccoons and skunks
  • conducts humane investigations if animal cruelty is suspected
  • acts as a lost and found resource for dogs or cats
  • enforces animal control laws
  • provides a shelter as an impoundment and adoption facility
  • does not euthanize any healthy, adoptable animal
