Building Inspector

Summit County is recruiting a full time Building Inspector willing to work within a team of dedicated professionals. This is an exceptional opportunity to perform a variety of full performance and technical duties as needed to assure compliance with county, state and/or federal building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical codes and ordinances. Will also perform inspections on residential, commercial and industrial buildings. May hire from one of the following levels depending on submitted qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications 
Building Inspector II Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school plus 2 years of specialized training in commercial, residential or industrial building methods and practices provided through technical college, professional workshops or university studies; and 4 years of responsible experience performing above or related duties or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Driver’s License, be ICC or other Utah State approved or recognized Inspector for two areas of residential or commercial specialization (building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical), and must possess a state license for a combination or limited inspector. 

Building Inspector III Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school plus 5 years of specialized training in building methods and practices related to commercial, industrial and residential structures provided through technical college, professional workshops or university studies; 5 years of responsible experience preforming above or related duties or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Driver’s License, be ICC or other Utah State approved or recognized four-way residential and commercial (building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical) inspector, and must possess a state license for combination inspector. Salary 

Building Inspector IV Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school plus 5 years of specialized training in building methods and practices related to commercial, industrial and residential structures provided though technical college, professional workshops or university studies; and 8 years of responsible experience performing above or related duties; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Driver’s License, be ICC or other Utah State approved or recognized four-way residential and commercial (building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical) inspector, and must possess a state license for combination inspector. Must have additional certification acceptable to the Building Official and the Community Development Director. 

Salary Range:

  • Building Inspector II: $23.64 – $33.11/hr.  
  • Building Inspector III: $26.56 – $37.20/hr.  
  • Building Inspector IV: $28.16 – $39.43/hr.
