Home Energy Efficiency

Here are a few energy saving tips for your home or rented space.

  • In the summertime, keep the blinds and windows closed during the day and open at night. This is a no-cost way to keep your home a little cooler.
  • Have your central air conditioner tuned up and clean or replace filters monthly for more efficient operation.
  • When shopping for new appliances or lightbulbs, look for ENERGY STAR rated items.
  • Install a smart or programmable thermostat in your home.
  • Air dry your clothes.
  • Take short showers instead of baths and use low-flow shower heads.
  • Wash only full loads of clothes and dishes.
  • Unplug appliances and electronics when not in use. Plug home electronics, such as TVs, DVD players and computers into power strips and turn off the power strips when the equipment is not in use.
